Hagfish - "Caught
Live" CD ($4)
A first-time retail offering of the band's hi-larious
interview on the KROQ's infamous "Loveline" radio show hosted by some clucks named Dr. Drew & Ricky
Rackman. Sixty-five fuckin' minutes of fun. Originally posted on MP3 or something
on the Hagfish web page where it received over 7,000 downloads. Limited edition
of 1,000. (Whoa Oh Records)
Hot Hot Heat
- "Scenes One Through Thirteen" CD ($3)
This Canadian no wave band seems to be quickly making
their name incorporating screeching guitars, dance rhythms, and haunting keyboards.
This CD combines their first and second 7" along with their split LP as
well as unreleased tracks. Think Sunshine and The Faint mixed with the vocal
styles of At The Drive-In. (Ohev Records)
International
Noise Conspiracy - "Bigger Cages, Longer Chains" CD ($2.50)
The (International) Noise Conspiracy hit you with another
politically explosive musical protest! This six-song neo-rock assault contains
five unreleased tracks (including a stellar cover of "Baby Doll" by N.E.R.D.) that target
global politics, big business and “the status quo” with passion,
force and soul of the highest order. Combining fury with funk has never been
an easy task, but “Bigger Cages, Longer Chains” pulls it off wonderfully!
(Epitaph / Burning Heart Records)
International Noise
Conspiracy - "Up For Sale" CD ($2)
The pulse-pounding sounds of The International Noise Conspiracy
come roaring into the music world with their diverse, lively & creative takes on corporate
America, capitalism, sex and other intriguing topics. This tasty little slice
shows a new side of this Swedish quartet - from the Sixties radical punk sound
on their debut to a more diverse mix of MC5, The Kinks, The Smiths, James Brown,
Primal Scream and modern R´n´B. Not retro, rather a step into modern
rock music made for the new century..."Up for Sale" is from their most
recent Epitaph album A New Morning, and "Written on the Bourgeois Body" & "Weighing
War on Coma" are EXCLUSIVE to this release. (Sympathy Records)
Keepsake - "Black
Dress in a B Movie" CD ($1)
Emo / Pop-punk ala Saves the Day / Jimmy Eats World...(Fearless
Records)
Kias Fansuri -
"Dua Tahun Pertama" CD (Import $4)
Malaysian screamo ala Reversal of Man! Rules! (Third Arm Records)
Kind of
Like Spitting / Lemuria - "Split" CD ($8)
Mind numbing tunes from two bands from each coast! LEMURIA are a trio from Buffalo,
NY that bring 7 new songs of female / male fronted punk with blazing guitar tones
and loud as fuck drums. With vocal melodies a la DISCOUNT and riffs in the vein
of JAWBREAKER and SUPERCHUNK. Ultra catchy tunes that'll be branded into your
brain. KIND OF LIKE SPITTING from Portland offer 5 new songs as a full band,
as opposed to a couple of recent releases that have been more folky. Fans of
BILLY BRAGG and the THERMALS should definitely check out their side of the split.
One song is actually a song is a THERMALS outtake that Ben Barnett (of KOLS)
recovered from his days of being in the band. Both bands are currently on a full
US tour! (Art of the Underground Records)
Kissing Chaos
- "Enter With A Bullet" CD ($2)
From the ashes of Austin, TX's Pop. Unknown comes Kissing Chaos, also featuring
ex-members of Mineral, Pop Unknown, and Sparta. In less than a year of existence
they've played w/Midtown, Hot Rod Circuit, Recover, and Ultimate Fakebook, and
with an enticing sound described as a cross between Quicksand and The Cure, their
debut offering is one of the most highly anticipated of 2003. Five track EP.
(Fueled By Ramen)
Left With Nothing
- "Good Things Come To Those Who Wait" CD ($2.50)
Very angry and very metal hardcore from this Tacoma, WA based group. Chaotic
riffing and drumming combined with strife-esque breakdowns. Obviously their anger
management classes haven't been working out. (Excursion Records)
Lemuria
- "Self Titled" CD ($7)
Did someone turn the clocks back to 1990? A great release from a band that
looks like your next door neighbors with a house full of roommates. A four-songer
here with good gal / guy vocals from this trio, who dish out some punky pop
with and indie feel. No CD filler here. Brings back the memories of the first
Superchunk (Chunk) and Discount singles to name a few. A great new single from
a great new band -- that is a must for you 90s indie types. (Art of the Underground)
Less Than Jake
- "Goodbye Blue & White" CD ($3)
A comprehensive collection of singles, comp songs, and
other bits'n'pieces! CD is now out of print!(No Idea Records)
Liars Academy
- "Trading My Life" CD ($2)
Great rock and roll is full of texture, life and emotion.
Once in a while a band matures to the level that they paint texture and articulate
the essence of life with broad strokes of guitar resonance and melody. Liars
Academy has grown to this level, where the music they produce is more than
just songs on a sterile compact disc. The band has created the truest sense
of rock on its newest offering, "Trading
My Life". The four songs contained within this set are flashes of brilliant
light, bursts of sound and moderate pressure on your skin. This is the texture
of life and it comes in the form of great rock. (Equal Vision Records)
Loaded for
Bear / Bizarre X - "Split" CD ($4)
This record is a Roman holiday of powerviolence, grindcore and punk. Just take
a listen to the mp3s. Songs are short and brutal, so i guess it sounds like Infest,
Spazz, Brutal Truth, Venemous Concept, Lack Of Interest, Napalm Death styled
grindcore on this album. 28 tracks, 13 from the Bear and 15 from Bizarre X, plus
Enhanced Video Footage! (Backgroundnoise Media Corps)
Locust, The (plus
V/A) - "Well I'll Be A Monkey's Uncle Split" CD ($3)
The fourth installment in GSL's Lab Remix Series, the
point of which is to provide an atypical outlet for the more "experimental" offerings from some
of our bands and their collaborators. The CD and double 12" include the
original LOCUST track, "Well I'll be a Monkey's Uncle" as well as exclusive
remixes by: CHRISTOPH DE BABALON, KID 606, I AM SPOONBENDER, SINKING BODY, BASTARD
NOISE and WIZARDS OF WAR (ex-PHYSICS). Total playing time is over 20 minutes.
The vinyl version features 2 different colors (one for each 12") and an
elaborate photo-etching like you've never seen before! (GSL Records)
